Sabores Sin Fronteras/Flavors without Borders

The Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance and University of Arizona's Southwest Center are pleased to annouce the launch of a new borderlands alliance to document, celebrate and revitalize the farming, ranching, foraging and food folkways of bi-national Southwest in a series of events scheduled for November 20 to 22 in Amado and Tubac, Arizona.  The Sabores Sin Fronteras / Flavors Without Borders alliance is hosting a founders’ retreat Thursday, November 20th at Rex Ranch in Amado, Arizona; a full day Borderlands Foodways Symposium on Friday, November 21st, also at Rex Ranch; and a Santa Cruz Valley Foodways Festival at La Entrada de Tubac, Arizona on Saturday November 22nd.

Join us for a day of savoring Santa Cruz Valley heritage foods! The Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance and the University of Arizona’s Southwest Center invite you to a community festival of regional foodways and folk practices on Saturday, November 22, 2008.  
 

The heritage foods festival includes educational materials from food-related non-profits, and food samples and sales from farmers, ranchers, restaurants, artists, and other producers of heritage foods and crafts. In addition to vendors, the festival includes scheduled events such as presentations, music and dance, and hands-on demonstrations. 

Enjoy traditional heritage foods, such as mesquite tortillas, prickly pear jelly, tepary beans, and more! Support the local food movement and purchase fresh produce from the local farmers, ranchers and gardeners. Learn about the rich agricultural heritage and historic food traditions of the Santa Cruz River watershed at educational exhibits.  Mariachi Plata will perform at 12:30pm!

VENDORS - Download a vendor/exhibitor application form and return by Nov. 14.  Appropriate vendors include local producers, food-related nonprofits, local restaurants, artists highlighting regional heritage.
